This was the haul of metal that was piled up and left behind by raiders who targeted a Midland scrapyard.

WW Commercial Ltd, on the border of Brownhills and Burntwood, was broken into early yesterday.

Raiders were seen piling up a huge mound of copper, batteries and metal cable.

Today, bosses at the business, off Barracks Lane, said it had been a constant target for metal thieves this year, with the firm now investing in a £15,000 security system. WW Commercial director James Ashby said the premises has been targeted four times in the last six weeks, at a cost of £20,000, and more than 10 times since the start of the year.

Three men, aged 25, 34 and 42, have been charged with theft following the raid. They have been bailed to appear at Burton upon Trent Magistrates Court on October 19. A 33-year-old has been cautioned.
