High Street bargain retailer Poundland is poised to bring a new store to a revamped shopping centre, it emerged today.

The firm is looking to open a store in Stourbridge's Ryemarket shopping centre.

Signs displaying the firm's logo have gone up on wooden boarding in front of a newly created larger unit in the centre.

Ryemarket bosses have revamped the centre in response to news of the new £50 million Crown Centre backed by cash from Tesco. The leading supermarket chain will open a brand new store inside the redeveloped Crown Centre next year.

Empty shop units within the Ryemarket have been refurbished in a bid to entice retailers to take up vacant stores.

Poundland, which is based in Willenhall, today confirmed its store, near the Waitrose supermarket, would open by later this month or early November.

It is unclear at this stage how many new jobs would be created.

Woolworths was the last big name store to pull out of the Ryemarket after the firm collapsed shutting 800 shops nationwide. Its large shop was recently taken over by Home Bargains.
