Three stock racing cars have been impounded by police investigating the death of a driver at Hednesford Hills Raceway.

The tragedy happened in front of hundreds of spectators on Sunday. A probe is now being carried out by Staffordshire Police and Cannock Chase Council.

David Weare was struck by another car after climbing out of his vehicle when it ran into a fence during a banger event.

It was the first time the 43-year-old from Devon had competed at the event.

Chief Insp Carl Ratcliffe said: "We're currently carrying out a detailed investigation to establish the full facts of what happened.

"We are appealing for anyone who directly witnessed the incident, especially those who may have video footage and who have not already given their details to police, to contact Sgt Richard Holt at Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 44 55 quoting 517 of September 25, or David Prosser-Davies from Cannock Chase Council on 01543 464202."
