Emergency services were called to a stretch of the road near Lichfield this morning.

The road at Weeford, between the Weeford island and B5404 at Mile Oak, was closed following the incident at 7.15am.

The woman, who suffered serious multiple injuries, was flown by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Both carriageways were closed for two helicopters to land and take off. There were extensive tailbacks in both directions.

The woman was initially treated by an off duty ambulance technician. A doctor on the Warwickshire air ambulance also treated her at the scene along with paramedics in a rapid response vehicle.
