Star footballer Chris Jones loses fight for life

A leading semi professional footballer who was a member of the 1987 FA Trophy winning Kidderminster Harriers squad has died after a long battle with serious illness.

A leading semi professional footballer who was a member of the 1987 FA Trophy winning Kidderminster Harriers squad has died after a long battle with serious illness.

Chris Jones passed away at Compton Hospice on Monday evening. He was 56.

Wolverhampton-born Mr Jones was brought up in Castlecroft and went to Northicote School, Bushbury. The father of two lived in Bridgnorth Road, Wightwick with wife Andrea and children Oliver and Charlotte.

Mr Jones joined Lucas Aerospace, now Goodrich Systems in Stafford Road, Fordhouses, at the age of 16. He spent his entire working life at the factory where he became a specialist engineer.

The 6ft 4ins tall centre half enjoyed a glittering soccer career, first playing for Telford before moving to Bilston, Stourbridge and then Kidderminster where he made over 100 first team appearance between 1983 and 1987.
