Thousands of rail passengers were caught up in delays between Wolverhampton and Stafford today after vandals damaged signals at Four Ashes.

Virgin Trains, London Midland and Cross Country services were all affected from 7am.

There were delays of up to 20 minutes as trains were stopped or slowed down at Penkridge.

Passengers were told there had been an attempted theft of copper cables and drivers had been warned to proceed with caution.
