A man who "horrifically" neglected six of his parents' pets, resulting in the death of five of them, has been warned he is facing a prison sentence.

RSPCA officers found five dead bodies of a dog, two cats, a hamster and a rat when they inspected the home of Matthew Pearson's parents, in Portway Road, Bilston.

The animals had been left in the care of the 28-year old, from Graiseley Lane, Wolverhampton after his parents went to Cornwall in January.

When officers entered the house they found they found the rooms covering in faeces and urine, with putrid water supplies, very little food and scratch marks on the inside of the kitchen door.

The only survivor was a collie-type dog called Beethoven, while second dog called Buster was found dead in his basket.

Pearson pleaded guilty to 34 offences relating to animal cruelty in February and March, and chairman Richard Blundell adjourned the case for a report to be prepared before sentencing.
