A gunman was this afternoon facing life behind bars after admitting shooting a plasterer dead at a house in Bilston.

Jahmayne Meade, 24, gunned down Lee Douglas after finding him at a home with his ex-girlfriend.

He had gone to the house, on the corner of Wellington Road and Arthur Road, with three men after Leanne Blake ignored text messages and phone calls from him.

A fight broke out when he discovered Mr Douglas at the house and a terrified Miss Blake ran upstairs and hid in a wardrobe before Meade pulled out a gun.

He fired four shots at Mr Douglas, killing him.

Meade left the scene in a taxi after the shooting at 12.30am on November 11.

Members of 31-year-old Mr Douglas's family were at Birmingham Crown Court where a trial was expected to begin today.

But they wept as Meade, of Leicester, changed his plea and admitted murder.

His guilty plea was made on a basis that he did not intend to kill Mr Douglas.

Mr Peter Greaves-Smith QC, prosecuting, said: "If he did not intend to kill firing four shots, we submit there's a high degree of culpability."

His brother Courtney Meade, 21, Ricardo Morgan, 21, and Irfan Patel, 24, all of Leicester, will be sentenced at a later date after admitting assisting an offender.
