One of the Midlands' biggest amateur football clubs is aiming to sign up a senior figure from the Football Association to open its new £1 million clubhouse.

Work on the new base for Wyrley Juniors in Long Lane, Essington is due to be completed next month.

Chairman Keith Hardy said that an FA ambassador was being lined up to visit in November to officially open the building which will have four changing rooms, two referees' rooms, a medical room, kitchen and a coaching development and community function room.

"We are having an open day on October 1 from 9am to show off the new clubhouse.

"Each of our 46 team will be represented in a 10-hour match," said Mr Hardy.

Four new pitches, which will be used by 16 of the Juniors teams, are also part of the scheme but they will not come into use until the 2012-2013 season.
