The stage was today being set for this year's V Festival – ready to welcome tens of thousands of music fans and some of the biggest acts in the industry.

Teams of workers are busy installing 500 lights, video screens and almost four miles of cable to prepare the main stage to be graced by music royalty including Eminem and Rihanna.

Teams began assembling the Virgin Media stage at Weston Park on Saturday and production crews are set to continue working until a few hours before the first act.

Work is also still being carried out to prepare three other music stages at the site as well as a comedy tent, which is being set up for the first time in V history.

The latter will see more than 20 different acts performing over Saturday and Sunday and is being run by The Glee Club.

Festival spokesman James Duffy said: "It is always very busy at this stage and the set up is always very weather-dependent.

"Luckily it has been pretty dry so far so they are on schedule."
