Motorists were hit with delays at a major junction in Walsall today after two lorries collided.

The smash happened near Walsall Manor Hospital and involved a white light goods truck and a heavy goods lorry.

The damaged white truck was left partially blocking busy Pleck Road at the junction with Bridgeman Street. Its windscreen and windows were shattered in the impact and its bumper was also hanging off.

The accident happened shortly after 7.30am today.

The driver of the white truck was taken to the nearby hospital after he suffered minor injuries in the crash. The HGV driver was not believed to be hurt.

A lone policeman arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to direct drivers around the lorry to keep the traffic moving as freely as possible. Firefighters based at Walsall Fire Station also attended to check the vehicle after it sprung an oil leak.

West Midlands Fire Service said the crew spread grit and sand on the carriageway to soak up the fluid.

The damaged truck carried the name MCS.
