It has taken more than a year to build but now the final wraps are being taken off Compton Hospice's impressive £3.5 million redevelopment ready to welcome its first patients.

With spacious rooms, each with their own en-suite bathroom, and fresh new decor, here is a sneak glimpse at the new-look hospice which bosses say provides a 21st century setting to give the best care to its patients.

The project has been the biggest development at the hospice since it opened in 1982.

The entire interior of the hospice has been redeveloped in a year-long building programme, which bosses say will enable a more personalised level of care to be provided.

The new unit has 18 single rooms, replacing the previous 22 beds.

Each room includes a hoist system that can move patients to any point in the room.

The latest call system has been installed at bedsides so patients can call a nurse in 30 seconds while there is also a therapy unit, two specially-designed treatment rooms and an overnight stay area for relatives and carers.
