This was the dramatic scene as an air ambulance landed on playing fields in Wolverhampton after a young boy was injured by a car.

The seven-year-old escaped life threatening injuries in the accident in Castlecroft Road, Bilston, at around 6.20pm yesterday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service called in help from the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance as their own helicopter was being used elsewhere.

The helicopter landed in playing fields behind Clarence Road, in the St Chad's area of Bilston.

Police officers also went there to guard the helicopter while paramedics cared for the injured boy.

The helicopter was not needed in the end and he was taken by ambulance to Walsall Manor Hospital with a suspected broken leg.
