There was pandemonium for Peppa Pig when the children's television favourite popped into a Black Country supermarket to meet young fans.

Hundreds queued to meet the popular character as she arrived at Asda Living at the Crown Wharf Shopping Park in Walsall yesterday to promote baby charity Tommy's.

Spokesman Ben Simmons said Peppa had been touring stores across the country but yesterday's appearance had the biggest turnout by far.

Youngsters had the chance to pose with Peppa for photos and collect goody bags.

Two-year-old Lucy Rathbone even dressed up like the character. Her mother Jodee Hitchcox, aged 32, of Beatrice Street, Leamore, said: "Lucy loves Peppa. She's got lots of her toys and has even been to Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park in Hampshire."

Fourteen youngsters from Beeches Day Nursery in Stephenson Square, Walsall, were also there.
