Aerospace giant Goodrich has won a multi-million pound contract that will safeguard jobs in Wolverhampton for up to 40 years, it was revealed today.

Dozens of engineering posts will be created at the firm, which employs 1,100 at its Stafford Road base, after it won a contract from aeroplane manufacture Embraer.

Based in Brazil, Embraer has awarded Goodrich the contract to design and make a new flight control system for its new KC-390 transport aeroplane.

Goodrich spokesman Martin Butler said engineers in Wolverhampton may work on the project. The plant is already expanding to employ 1,300 by the end of the year as part of existing expansion plans.

The total value of today's contract has not been revealed.
