Busy Wolverhampton road to be dug up for third time in year

Motorists and residents in Wolverhampton were today facing another seven weeks of road misery after workers returned to rip up part of a busy road for the third time in just over a year.

Severn Trent workers today returned to Goldthorn Hill as part of a wider £4 million project to replace water mains in Penn. Letters have gone out to residents warning them of the disruption. Underground pipes are being replaced as part of the scheme and three-way lights are in place on the junction of Goldthorn Avenue and Goldthorn Hill.

There will be two-way traffic lights on the junction of Goldthorn Hill and Coton Road and the junction of Goldthorn Hill and Goldthorn Road. This work will commence on August 8.

Two-way lights will be installed on the junction of Goldthorn Hill and Elizabeth Avenue from August 21 and three-way lights will be on the junction of Goldthorn Hill and Upper Villiers Street until September 9.

The letter states: "We are investing £4m for new water mains in the Penn area. We are in the process of renewing over 26km of the existing water main and increasing reliability.

"The water mains system has been serving the community for many years but there are places on the system that need improving. This scheme will help alleviate past leakage problems in Penn."
