Bus users in a South Staffordshire village will be left out in the cold as part of the reorganisation of Wolverhampton bus services ahead of the new station opening on Sunday, it emerged today.

A new timetable will see the 510 service travel through Perton on the opposite side of the road to which it currently operates, leaving two bus shelters that cost £12,000 to install completely redundant.

The move will mean elderly residents face walking up to 400 metres to bus stops without shelters. Perton Parish Council and South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson are now calling for the original timetable to be reinstated by operator National Express West Midlands.

Councillor Dave Billson, from Perton Parish Council, said he had also been contacted by residents about the changes to the service.

National Express was unavailable for comment.
