More than 5,000 people have added their names to a landslide of protests against plans for a second quarry on the outskirts of their village.

Staffordshire County Council planners have now delayed making a decision on the proposals to excavate sand and gravel from the site in Mile Flat, Wall Heath, until late August.

Dudley Council has lodged its own "strong objections" against the bid from FG Davis & Sons Ltd for a new quarry on a 19-acre site at the rear of Dudley-Kingswinford Rugby Club.

Residents are also objecting to an application by the firm to continue working its existing quarry in nearby Enville Road for an extra three years.
