A school cricket team from Wolverhampton is celebrating scooping a hat-trick of trophies.

The team, from Christ Church CE Junior School in Tettenhall Wood, won the area tournament and also the Wolverhampton City Finals.

It then went on to compete in the Staffordshire County Championships, where players beat Christ Church Middle School, Stone, in the final on June 29.

Captain Raees Ijaz said he was "very happy" with his team's performance and admitted the secret to winning was teamwork. Year 3 teacher Angela Holmes said she was delighted with the team's performance.

"They have been training since Easter and within a month they have taken part in three competitions and won all of them," she said.

The Year 6 team represented Staffordshire at the regional finals in Hereford against other county champions from the West Midlands yesterday (12) and finished fourth.
