Black Country building firm boss Steve Amos feels like he's one in a million after getting tickets for the 2012 Olympics to watch the top event of the championships – the 100 metre final.

He's been voted the "best stepdad in the world" by his wife's son, who will sit alongside him in the stadium when world record holder Usain Bolt is expected to defend his Olympic champion title.

Steve, aged 41, of Portway Road, Rowley Regis, who is managing director of Amos Builders, based in Fairfield Road, Halesowen, has paid a total of £590 for the two tickets under the Olympics ticket allocation process.

More than a million people applied for tickets for the evening of Sunday, August 5 when the 100 metre event will take place.

Only 40,000 places were made available for the public, with the other 40,000 seats in the arena going to sponsors, VIPs and the media. "I'm over the moon – I only applied for the two tickets so I feel very lucky to have got both, especially when I was up against one million others," said Steve.

He wanted the tickets as a treat for his wife Kita's son Dave Singh, 22, who is a keen athletics fan.

"I kept quiet about making the application," said Steve. "Now Dave thinks I'm the best stepdad in the world."
