An historic West Midland bakery that closed with the loss of 40 jobs has gone on the market for £650,000.

The freehold for the former Firkins bakery, based in West Bromwich, is being marketed by chartered surveyors Martin Bloomer Associates.

The 42,494 sq ft premises at Black Lake are also available to let at £65,000 per year. Bosses of Firkins, which celebrated its 141st anniversary this year, announced the bakery's closure in May, and it was then put into liquidation.

The firm owns branches in Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall, Oldbury and West Bromwich, which have continued to trade with a new supplier since the bakery closed.

Paul BlennerHassett, of West Bromwich-based Martin Bloomer Associates, said: "The advertising for industrial premises is for the old Firkins site.

"We've had a few calls already about it, but no offers have been made. We've got its freehold on the market for £650,000 and it's available for let for £65,000."
