Three men have been arrested after a high-speed motorway chase ended in a quiet Staffordshire village.

Police pursued a silver Seat Leon off the M6 into Gailey at around 5am.

Officers tried to get the car to stop as it was travelling southbound between junction 14 and 13 at Stafford, however the driver of the vehicle failed to pull over and a chase ensued.

It is believed the police headed off the motorway at junction 13 at high-speed down the A449 past Dunston and Penkridge before the pursuit ended at the Gailey roundabout, where the A449 joins the A5.

The Seat had knocked down a lamp post as it came to a stop at the roundabout, however, engineers had put the post back up by 7am.

Three men were detained and are being questioned at Burton Police Station today. No-one was hurt in the incident.
