Potentially lethal drugs were stolen in a daring car-jacking in Great Barr. A red pharmaceuticals van carrying methadone, morphine and sedatives was rammed from behind.

The van, belonging to AAH Pharmaceuticals, was travelling down Pages Lane towards Junction 7 of the M6 when a Peugeot 307 crashed into it from behind.

When the driver got out, a masked man confronted him and jumped into the van, speeding off towards Walsall.

The 31-year-old delivery driver was then bundled into the back of a white transit van which pulled up at the scene and was dropped off near to Great Barr golf course.

He suffered cuts and bruises after being assaulted during yesterday's robbery.

DI Andy Hawkins, from Sandwell CID, urged witnesses to come forward.

He said: "These men were prepared to commit a serious offence in a very busy area just as many people were on their way to work."

He added that it was a "shocking and terrifying"?ordeal for the victim and warned that the stolen drugs were potentially deadly.

"In the wrong hands, this kind of product could be dangerous and extremely harmful," he said.

AAH spokesman James Lindsay Rea said the driver was now recovering at home.
