A motorcyclist died today after colliding with a lorry in Darlaston. The 43-year-old was in a crash at the junction of Heath Road and Walsall Road.

He was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival following the 6.50am crash, just off the mini-roundabout near to the Total petrol station.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: "The man riding the motorcycle suffered multiple serious injuries and was in traumatic cardiac arrest.

"He received advanced life support at the scene and treatment was continued as he was transferred to hospital. The hospital had been pre-alerted to the man's arrival and a trauma team were on standby.

"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews and hospital staff, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead shortly after arriving at hospital."

The Suzuki motorcycle and a Scania lorry belonging to European Metal Recycling, based in Bentley Road South, Darlaston, collided.

Heath Road was cordoned off in both directions by emergency services.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Any witnesses should contact the Collision Investigation Unit at Aston on 0345 113 5000.
