A Normandy veteran and his wife have celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Jim Drew, MBE, aged 91, who took part in the D-Day landings, married Elizabeth, known as Nancy, in Dudley on June 14, 1941.

They shared a cuddle as they celebrated their platinum anniversary surrounded by family at Leabrook Nursing Home, Ocker Hill, Tipton.

Mr Drew, who moved into the home last year, said: "We have always helped one another. We know each other so well by now."

Mrs Drew, 89, said: "When he goes quiet I know that something is the matter but we always solved any arguments very quickly."

Mr and Mrs Drew were both born in Tipton in the early 1920s and met shortly after the start of the Second World War before marrying 12 months later.
