Work on the new £77 million Sandwell College building is forging ahead, as this latest picture taken from the air shows.

The campus in the heart of West Bromwich town centre is due to be completed in five months, ready to become home to 10,000 students in the new year.

The aerial photograph shows the final touches being made to the new roof of the building in Spon Lane, and the top two floors emerging from the scaffolding that has been cocooning the site for months.

Water will be connected and power switched on within the next fortnight, marking a key milestone in the project.

The new campus will replace the existing bases in West Bromwich, Oldbury and Smethwick, which will close and be sold off once the new college is up and running.

It will include a sports hall, automotive and construction workshops, hair and nail bar.

There will also be a food hall, bar and European-style piazza.

Construction kicked off in September 2009.
