Hundreds of mourners paid an emotional farewell this afternoon to an elderly Wolverhampton couple who were beaten and stabbed to death in their own home.

Giuseppe Massaro, 80, and wife Caterina, 77, were murdered in their home in Heath Town. Two TVs and their Peugeot were stolen before the couple were found in their Woden Road home by their granddaughter Lindsey on April 22.

Mourners entered St Patrick's Church in Wolverhampton Road, Wednesfield, this afternoon to Andrea Bocelli's Because We Believe and left to the Italian tenor's Time to Say Goodbye.

The congregation was led by Father Eamonn Corduf who urged mourners not to dwell on the manner in which the couple had been killed and said they would be remembered with "great affection".

He said: "Their married life was truly blessed."

The service was followed by a private burial.
