A fishing pool was searched today as detectives hunted for clues to solve the murder of 92-year-old Brownhills pensioner Daisy Myring.
Acting on a tip-off, officers in waterproof clothing were looking for a weapon, clothing or other evidence. The specialist West Midlands Police operational support unit was expected to spend several hours at the pond, off Brownhills Road, near Norton Canes.
Today detectives appealed for fishermen who use the pool to come forward with any information about suspicious activity at the beauty spot in recent days.
The search comes just a day after Daisy's relatives made an emotional appeal to the public to help find her killer or killers.
The housebound pensioner was beaten to death in her home in Albion Road.
She suffered a fatal blow to the head and was discovered by one of her carers at 7.10am last Tuesday. A 40-year-old man and two women aged 36 and 32, all from Norton Canes, have been arrested and bailed on suspicion of murder.
Police believe the victim knew her killer or killers and do not believe she was the victim of a botched burglary.
Det Sgt Mick Postin, overseeing the search, said he expected it to take a number of hours.
Frogmen were not needed to carry out the search as the water was just a few feet deep.
"We know this area is well used by local fishermen and if they've seen anything suspicious or anything out of place, particularly last Saturday, we need to hear from them," he said.
Yesterday,?Daisy's grandson David Worrall told of the family's nightmare and urged the public to imagine what they were going through.
