A millionaire who had a road built without planning permission has been told he can keep it, after a public inquiry.

But Tony Wright still faces a battle to keep the riding centre it leads to.

He is due to appear before the Planning Inspectorate next week.

The boss of Cannock-based Halsall Electrical built the road and the stables in Penkridge, including space for 14 horses, next to the £500,000 home of Levedale Road resident Deborah Vine without planning permission.

Mrs Vine, who lives with her two teenage children, has claimed the stables and traffic it brings are threatening her idyllic rural life.

But an inquiry has now granted the road a certificate of lawfulness.

A final decision on the stables will be made by the Government's Planning Inspectorate following a hearing on June 1 at South Staffordshire Council.
