A busy stretch of road in South Staffordshire is being ripped up and resurfaced - just weeks after workers moved in to repaint lines and markings on the route.

Chicanes, bus stop lines and speed restriction markings were repainted on the A34 Stafford Road in Newtown, Essington, just weeks ago.

But bosses at Staffordshire County Council have admitted they will have to be repainted again after a new surface is laid.

They today said an investigation has been launched into why the two projects were not co-ordinated properly.

Essington Councillor David Clifft has branded it a "waste of public money."
