More than 30 years since being on public display, an historic shell presented to a Black Country town for its contribution to the First World War effort is back in the community.

Wordsley Community Association took official custody of the war-time weapon at a re-dedication ceremony on Saturday.

The large Howitzer shell, the likes of which date back to the Battle of the Somme, was first presented to the area by the National War Savings Committee in 1918 as a thank you for its fundraising efforts.

The shell has now been placed in a specially-designed case and is on display at Wordsley Community Centre in Wordsley Green.
