But this is how a £150 million prison in South Staffordshire will look once complete. Work is under way on the jail in Featherstone, which is being built next to the village's current prison and Brinsford Young Offenders Institution.

But South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson today said the modern appearance of the jail would not ease concerns of residents about the development.

"Anything that mitigates the impact of the building on the local community is a positive thing but I still don't think it should have been built where it is," he said.

"It is not going to take away the fact it's a major blot on the landscape."
