Ex-head of failing school in new adviser job

The former headteacher of a failing Wolverhampton school, who quit her job after the Secretary of State intervened, has been given a job with the city council's Building School's for the Future team, it emerged today.

Lorraine McCarthy left Moseley Park School & Technology College in Bilston just weeks ago after the Secretary of State intervened in the school's affairs and suggested scrapping the entire governing body.

She has now been appointed as consultant headteacher on the BSF team, which will transform the future of education in the city.

Councillor Paddy Bradley, who sits on the council's BSF committee, today voiced anger at the appointment.

"I can't understand this appointment," she said. "She was the headteacher of a failing school. Now she is giving advice to schools about how they can improve. We are trying to raise standards of education in Wolverhampton. Education is all these children have."
