A road in Wolverhampton was sealed off today after shots were fired at a house and car. Detectives say a number of shots were fired from a car in Whitgreave Avenue, Low Hill, at about 10 last night.
Worried residents contacted police, and officers sealed off the scene. No-one was injured but damage was caused to a house and a parked car. Today, police had sealed off Whitgreave Avenue at its junctions with Colley Avenue and near to its junction with Neve Avenue.
A police photographer was at the scene gathering evidence, as reports emerged this afternoon that up to six shots had been fired.
West Midlands Police spokesman Billy Corrigan said today: "House-to-house inquiries were conducted, and detectives will review CCTV later today in the hope that the incident was captured on film."
Councillor Peter O'Neill, who represents Bushbury South, said he had been told by witnesses that six shots had been fired. He said: "I was made aware of this earlier this morning. The street was sealed off when I returned to my house earlier in the afternoon today.
"It is a very worrying situation and not the sort of thing you expect to happen on a residential estate. It is a relief that nobody was injured."
Bushbury North councillor Les Pugh said: "Whatever disagreement these people might have with someone, resorting to the use of guns is something that should never be done."
It is thought to be the first shooting in Wolverhampton since the death of 17-year-old Raheem Hines-Thomas.
Raheem is believed to have been with friends or associates at his house in Orslow Walk when a shotgun was accidentally fired, hitting him in the chest.
He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead soon after, at about 7pm, on March 19.
An investigation into that death remains ongoing.
Witnesses or anyone with information on last night's shooting should contact police on 0345 113 5000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
