A man has been arrested after a van smashed into five parked cars in Stourbridge.
Police on patrol were flagged down by residents in South Road after their cars were damaged at around 8.40pm last night.
Fire crews were also called out after smoke started pouring out of one of the car bonnets.
Officers stopped a van in nearby Larkhill Road and arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of both failing to stop following a road traffic collision and drink driving. He remains in police custody today where he was helping with inquiries.
Sgt Keith Pagan, from the Norton neighbourhood pol-ice team, said: "Significant damage has been caused to several cars parked along South Road. The fire service was called to one of the vehicles as smoke was seen coming from its bonnet.
"Quick action by residents in alerting local officers meant that they were able to swiftly search the area and locate a van not too far away, where the driver was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
"He was arrested and is now being questioned."
