A headteacher is to retire after almost 40 years teaching thousands of pupils across Walsall.

Janet Davies has been in charge at Blue Coat CofE Infants in Hanch Place for 11 years.

Before that she taught at Pool Hayes Primary, Willenhall, Whitehall Primary, Caldmore and was previously head at Cooper and Jordan CofE Primary, Aldridge.

At the end of term on Friday she will bid a fond farewell to the pupils and her colleagues at the school which has been rated among the top 12 nationally by Ofsted for its outstanding work in reading.

Around 150 past and present colleagues attended a leaving party held in her honour at the school earlier this week.

Mrs Davies, aged 58, who lives in Wolverhampton, said: "There have been many highs in my career, many success stories in the schools where I have taught across the borough.

"The biggest high is when I see success in the children whom we serve."
