This is the terrifying moment an armed robber points what appears to be a shotgun at a Black Country shopkeeper - the first of two raids the thief pulled off in less than 24 hours.

Hooded Guravtar Chander paces around the shop in Wolverhampton for around five minutes before pulling the weapon from within his sleeve and then training it on the stunned shopkeeper.

In CCTV obtained by the Express & Star, he can be seen beckoning the victim to hand over cash before demanding cigarettes and stuffing the £800 haul into his pockets.

He then calmly walks out of Newhampton News, on Newhampton Road West in Whitmore Reans.

The next day, 27-year-old Chander walked into the Sekhon store just a few hundred yards away and pointed the weapon at boss Amrik Sekhon's chest.

Wearing a winter coat with the hood pulled up, he paused to look around as two customers left. The robber then forced Mr Sekhon to hand over the cash.

Chander, of Jameson Street, Whitmore Reans, fled with £100 after spending just 50 seconds in the Lowe Street shop. The first raid happened at around 8pm on November 15, 2010, while the second happened at 2.50pm the next day. Chander has admitted two charges of robbery.

He has admitted two further charges of possession of an imitation firearm while carrying out the raids.

Chander, who was identified from the CCTV, claimed the weapon was not real and police are unable to prove it was.

Judge Amjad Nawaz said he entirely understood that Chander's victims believed the weapon to be real at the time.

He was remanded in custody last week at Wolverhampton Crown Court and will be sentenced on March 31.
