Two buses carrying school children and commuters crashed within minutes of each other only metres apart in Cannock today.

Just before 8am the number 32 Arriva bus service skidded on the ice on Mercury Way, mounting the kerb where the road meets Saturn Road, took out a lamppost, and nearly went straight in to the house on the corner.

A matter of minutes later, the number 33 Arriva bus skidded further up the steep Mercury Way trapping a motorist in his car.

The motorist suffered minor head injuries and received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene.

None of the bus passengers were injured. People living in the road said it has become a death trap on cold mornings since it was resurfaced by Staffordshire County Council in the summer.
