The family of a Wolverhampton police worker, who died when she was struck by a tram more than seven years ago, should finally be given answers next month.

Cheryl Flanagan, aged 30, was killed by a Midland Metro tram at The Crescent stop in Bilston on December 12, 2003.

Former fiancee Ian Bracey, a Wolverhampton-based police constable at the time, was arrested and released without charge following the death.

An earlier coroner's hearing had been told Miss Flanagan, a Bilston Street station data handler, was found dead on the line minutes after an argument with Pc Bracey.

She had split from him earlier that week and had moved back in with her parents in Greencroft, Bilston.

She died 12 minutes after leaving the family home and her father George found her body.

The inquest was opened shortly after her death but it was adjourned when it emerged that coroner Mr Richard Allen had met Pc Bracey, who has since retired, in connection with an unrelated matter.

Now the Worcestershire coroner Mr Geraint Williams has announced that the full hearing, which is expected to last four weeks, will take place on February 7.

The circumstances surrounding the death have been shrouded in mystery, much to the dismay of Miss Flanagan's family.

They have fought for answers and have complained about the way British Transport Police investigated it.
