Thousands of Christmas cards containing a misspelt message have been distributed by councillors in a Black Country town.

Tipton Green ward councillors Ian Jones, Ahmadul Haque and Syeda Khatun signed off the cards wishing householders Best Wishes For Chrsitmas (sic) and a Happy New Year.

Around 5,000 cards went out in the last week and householders said it had set them off giggling.

Dave Bartley, who lives in Stella Road, said: "It's so obvious, I'm amazed nobody saw it. To use a Tipton phrase, it's very tuppenny ha'penny.

"It didn't surprise me one little bit they hadn't spelt the card right though, to be honest. I had to have a bit of a giggle when I saw it."

Mr Bartley, aged 53, a poet who prides himself on being the Voice of Tipton, added: "It's astonishing with the technology we have that the card got through.

"It's a pretty shoddy show but it was quite funny."
