The borough is seeing another spate of driveway thefts in the bad weather, with three cars stolen and an attempted theft all in the past seven days.

Yesterday, thieves tried to steal a Volvo V5 from Ravensdale Garden in Park Hall at 7.15am. However, they were unable to get off the driveway because of the ice and snow.

On Monday, a BMW with its keys in the ignition was taken from Longwood Road, Aldridge, at 7pm, followed by an Audi A6 worth £30,000 from Guild Avenue, Blakenall, at 9.30am.

Last Friday, a Skoda was stolen from Ravensbourne Grove, Willenhall, at 9.40am.

Chief Inspector Matt Markham said: "We need to get the message across that you do not leave your car unlocked and unattended even for a few moments."

He reminded people that insurance companies did not pay out for such thefts.

Last Friday, 13 cars with keys in the ignition were stolen in the West Midlands. In Walsall last month, four cars were stolen in just over an hour on the same day.

Two Volvos, an Audi A6 and Volkswagen Passat were all stolen on November 30 in Aldridge, Walsall, Willenhall and Park Hall.
