Irish singing star Daniel O'Donnell will perform in Birmingham this weekend - with the warning to fans that he plans to take a break from touring.

The easy-listening legend returns to Birmingham's National Indoor Arena on Sunday, and over the years he has made many friends in the area since his early days performing at the Irish Centre in Digbeth.

It is 30 years since Daniel began singing with his sister Margaret's band, and the performer who is famous for his 'meet and greet' sessions at the end of his shows, has got to know many of the loyal fans who have followed him over that time.

O'Donnell, who celebrates his 49th birthday on December 11, recently released his new Christmas album O Holy Night, which features 15 carols.

But Sunday's concert — which starts at 7.30pm — could be one of the last opportunities for fans in the region to see Daniel perform live, as he plans to take a break from touring after his 50th birthday next year.

"This does not mean I am retiring," he said. "My plan is to pick a venue in various locations where I can do a block of shows together. I am making this announcement now so that fans who wish to see us in this coming year will be aware that we may not be visiting your area for quite some time."

Daniel says no details have been decided for a UK tour next year, so it is possible he may be returning to the region at least one more time.

O Holy Night is the singer's first Christmas album since 1994, and he will be hoping to emulate the success of his previous effort which sold more than 300,000 copies.

He has amassed an aimpressive 13 top 30 albums since January 2000
