Around 500 cannabis plants were seized from a house in Halesowen during a raid by police today.

Eight officers swooped on the property in Masters Lane at 10am.

Two men were arrested at the scene and are now helping police with their enquiries.

Officers discovered the entire upstairs of the house had been turned into a sophisticated cannabis farm.

The plants completely filled three bedrooms and an attic and officers found many of the plants had started to mature.

Police said they would not know the total value of the plants until further investigations had been carried out.

Sergeant Jimmy Jones of Dudley Police Station who was leading the operation said it had been a sizable haul.

He added the raid had been carried out as part of Operation Advent, set up to execute 24 warrants in the run up to Christmas.

He said: "This is the first of our operations and it has been a successful one."
