He says the city is becoming a hot spot for top class Michelin starred restaurants such as Simpsons, Edgbaston and Carluccio's, Brindley Place.
Brian is in Birmingham for the BBC Good Food Show — on at the NEC until Sunday — with top chefs and culinary stars including Gordon Ramsay, James Martin, Rick Stein and Gary Rhodes.
Tens of thousands of people are expected at the show. Brian said: "It is great to see so many people here.
"This is a very good show. Until a few years ago I did have a restaurant at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, by the NEC, but it was only set up as a three year contract and I would like to have a base in Birmingham again.
"Tonight I'm eating at Simpsons and there is such a wide choice of good places to eat now in Birmingham, especially with Carluccio's recently opening — it is becoming a real centre for good eating out."
This year's show features a 2,000 seater theatre featuring live demonstrations from top chefs as well as the star-studded BBC Radio Food and Farming awards ceremony.
There are master classes for budding chefs, who could have creations judged by John Torode and Gregg Wallace, and a Producers Village, filled with suppliers and artisan producers.
Brian said: "I've been busy since I arrived at the NEC, on the stoves one minute and then taking part in some of the shows.
"However, I'm used to that kind of life and often go from a late night at my restaurant in London to the TV studios. It is alright so long as you have a good team behind you — but when it is time for me to relax then I do take time out."
Brian is known for appearing on TV's Ready Steady Cook and his own BBC series Anything You Can Cook.
