A 25-year-old man died when his car left the road and hit a tree near Cheslyn Hay.

A black Honda Civic driven by Ben Houghton, of The Nook, in the village, went off the road in Old Landywood Lane. The air ambulance was unable to attend the scene because of fog.

The accident, which happened at around 1.30pm on Saturday, is not believed to have involved any other vehicles.

An rapid response vehicle was sent to the scene along with medics from RAF Cosford's air ambulance who could not fly because of the weather.

Mr Houghton was in cardiac arrest and paramedics could not revive him at the scene near Upper Landywood.

Staffordshire police have appealed for any witnesses to the accident to come forward. They are also seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the movements of the Honda leading up to the accident.

Anyone who can help should contact senior investigating officer Sgt Mick Scott or PC Pete Lamb on 0300 123 4455 quoting incident 481 of November 20.

Councillor David Heseltine, district council member for Cheslyn Hay South, said that Old Landywood Lane was not considered to be a dangerous road.

"It is used as a route to get into the conurbation out of the village, but this the first serious accident I have heard of therem," he added.
