A treasured pet dog has been found after being trapped for 10 days behind a garden shed, nearly three miles from home.

Scully's distraught owner Andrew Travers said he thought he would never see her again.

But ten days after running off, the loveable Jack Russell Terrier cross has been found between a shed and a fence at the bottom of a garden. She had squeezed under the fence into a small enclosed space about 2ft square, concealed from view, and could not escape.

It is thought she had been there almost the whole time she was missing.

Andrew Travers, 37, of Gibbons Hill Road, Sedgley, had almost given up searching when he received a phone call saying she had been found in Coseley.

Scully, aged nine, was found by Michael Southall, who had gone to the bottom of his elderly father's garden to find a screwdriver in the shed and heard the dog crying.

By this time, Scully was malnourished and weak.

Mr Southall took her to a local vets, who were able to track down Scully's owner as she was microchipped.

Mr Travers said: "I don't think she would have survived another few nights outside with how cold it has been.

"I feel so lucky that she was found, I just couldn't believe it."

Mr Travers, who is studying sign language at Wolverhampton University, lives alone with Scully.

The dog went missing on Bonfire Night after running away. MrTravers said: "She just panicked because of the fireworks and sped off, and that was it, she was gone."

But since she has been reunited with her owner, she never leaves his side, he added. Scully is now recovering and, despite becoming more timid since her ordeal, has started going on walks again.

Mr Southall said his father is hard of hearing and would not have realised Scully was trapped.

He said: "I don't know how she managed to squeeze in there. I'm just glad she's OK - she's a lovely dog."

Mr Travers said: "I'm so grateful. When I found out, I got this lump in my throat."
