Conmen stole hundreds of pounds during the space of just four hours after targeting elderly people in Stourbridge, including a 90-year-old woman.

She was among pensioners targeted in the latest spate of distraction burglaries in the region.

The thieves pretended to be electrical workers, before stealing cash while the owners' backs were turned.

Police believe the same men were involved in four incidents - including two where cash was stolen.

They today warned older people to be vigilant.

The fraudsters first stuck at Ridgeway Road in Stourbridge at 10.25am yesterday.

A man called at the home of an elderly couple and said he needed to switch off the power supply, but left empty handed after being asked to leave by the residents. A further three incidents were then reported to police.

A man in his late teens or early 20s snatched £160 from the 90-year-old woman's purse in Grange Lane, Lye. At 2.30pm a group of three white men were seen acting suspiciously outside the home of an elderly man on Wheeler Street in Stourbridge and 10 minutes later two men entered the house of an elderly woman in Amblecote, claiming to need to test electrics inside the property.

They switched on TV sets and escaped with around £400. Anyone with information should call police on 0345 113 5000.
