A teenage girl and a six-year-old boy were seriously injured when they were knocked down in separate road accidents.

The 14-year-old girl suffered a cut to her head and a suspected broken ankle in a collision with a car in Kent Street in Upper Gornal at around 4.25pm yesterday.

An ambulance and an incident support officer attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the girl, who lives locally, was initially unconscious when crews arrived.

She was taken to Russells Hall Hospital for treatment.

The woman driver of the car was shaken but unhurt.

Meanwhile the six-year-old boy suffered head and facial injuries and a broken ankle in an accident with a car in Sandy Lane, Rugeley, at 6.15pm yesterday.

It happened near the Pear Tree pub.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokes-man Murray McGregor said: "When ambulance staff arrived they found a boy in a potentially very serious condition."

The boy was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
