What a load of rubbish - this 18ft mountain of waste was today at the centre of complaints in Wolverhampton.

Rusting old bath tubs, mattresses, sofas, a car seat and plastic sheeting is among the junk piled up at the site of skip hire firm Jones of Bilston, in Monmore Road.

The rubbish mountain - which is taller than some neighbouring factory buildings - is being monitored by the Environment Agency following complaints to the council by residents and nearby businesses.

Wolverhampton City Council's public protection manager Andy Hall said: "We are aware of issues at premises on the industrial estate at Monmore Road and are liaising with the Environment Agency."

Wayne Robinson, who co-manages nearby skip hire company Jones of Wolverhampton, in Cullwick Street, said he had made several complaints to the council demanding the pile be cleared up, but nothing has happened.

He said: "The problem has been going on for about five years and we have reported it to the council several times."

Jones of Bilston's secretary Lesley Slater said today: "We are trying to reduce the pile. We have been sending out the soil and brick but we've got to get on top of the log pile. Part of it will be disposed of in the next few weeks."
