A Cannock Chase councillor has backed calls for a special meeting to be held for campaigners against a controversial new road in Hednesford. Councillor Wendy Yates says displaying the plans is not enough.

Staffordshire County Council plans to host a consultancy exhibition on the ongoing work with the Pye Green Valley link road.

But Councillor Yates says this falls short of what residents were promised.

She said that the exhibition, being held this Friday and Saturday at Blake High School, is not what people were told would happen when they were discussing the plans at the Museum of Cannock Chase in September.

She said: "Whatever the reason, it does not meet the requests of the residents.

"Residents are justly angered - they want their say about the problems being caused by the construction works." Councillor Yates said, at the least, the exhibition time should be extended to make sure everyone who has a concern will get a chance to have a say on the work.

Lisa Pearce, of Granary Close, Hednesford, one of the road's most vocal campaigners, says she is also disappointed there will be no designated public meeting.

The exhibitions will take place from 10am to 6pm on Friday and from 10am to midday on Saturday.
